Why would ICANN suspend my domain?

Who are ICANN?

ICANN, also known as the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, accommodate the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority the (IANA) tasks, which are important  technical services vital to the continued functions of the Internet's Domain Name System (DNS).

Why do ICANN suspend domains?

Registrars are required to suspend domains (as per ICANN Policy) if the domain registrant does not respond to the verification email they receive within 15 days. The verification email is generated when a new domain is registered, transferred or updated.

How do I know if my domain is suspended?

To find out if the domain is suspended or not, you would need to check the status of the domain. You can do this by doing a WHOIS search on the domain. If the domain status is ClientHold, it is suspended.

How do I get the domain unsuspended?

You would need to open the verification email you have received and follow the link in the email to unsuspend the domain. If you have accidentally deleted or lost the email, you would need to get the verification email re-sent to your email address. The way to do this would be to change the Registrant email address on the domain to an account you have access to. This can be done within your client area:

  1. Login to your client area at https://my.tsohost.com/
  2. Select My Domains then select Manage beside the domain you wish to alter.
  3. Select Contact Information

When you change the contact details for the registrant of a domain, a verification email will be sent automatically.

ICANN Domains

ICANN have direct authority over all non-ccTLD domains, some examples: .com  .org  .net  .int  .edu  .gov  .mil, .company, .guru, .photography
